Amber Patrice Cleaver is a Kansas City, Missouri native and Howard University graduate. Cleaver is the chef and owner of Mo’ Better Chews, a catering company she launched during the pandemic, after deciding to bring her passion for cooking to life. Cleaver operates Mo’ Better Chews in Hyattsville, Maryland and services the entire DMV area and other regions across the country.
The name Mo’ Better Chews is not only a play on the Spike Lee Classic ‘Mo’ Better Blues,’ but it’s also a means to pay homage to her hometown, the ‘Show Me State.’ Combining her love for movies and cooking, you’ll see that each of her social media posts, which highlights her dishes, pairs her creation with a movie that compliments the meal. Because quite frankly, wine pairing was just too easy.
Cleaver got her cooking start from her mother, and she quickly learned that cooking had more to do with feeling and adaptability than a cookie cutter recipe. That lesson has helped her craft dishes ranging from pan seared filet mignon with truffle cream sauce to the best loaded potatoes in the DMV. As an attorney, single mother, and business owner, Cleaver uses one word to describe how she’s able to juggle it all, “LOVE.” Her motto, “ The only way to cook is with love,” helps to transcend her creative style of cooking into each dish, so each bite has flavor, personality, and soul.
Whether it’s a private dinner for 2 or a catering event for 50, Cleaver works to create unique dishes which highlight her Midwestern and Southern roots and her love for fine cuisine. Contact Mo’ Better Chews for your next private dining soirée, catering event, or catch them during one of their weekly ‘pull up’ events.”
