Acclaimed Boston Chefs Ken Oringer + Ming Tsai Raise Over $400,000 to Benefit Ukraine

Acclaimed Boston chefs Ken Oringer and Ming Tsai have rallied Boston’s food-loving community to raise more than $400,000 in support of World Central Kitchen’s (WCK) efforts to feed Ukrainian refugees. The funds were raised from ticket sales to a now sold-out dinner that chef Oringer and chef Tsai are co-hosting on Sunday, April 10th. The intimate dinner sold out almost immediately, and 100% of the proceeds have already been donated to WCK to directly benefit their work.

In support of the refugees escaping the violence in Ukraine, WCK began serving hot, nourishing meals in Poland within a day of the initial attack and is now set up at eight border crossings. Founded by Chef José Andrés, a humanitarian and one of Time Magazine’s most influential people of the year, WCK has since been able to deliver food on the Ukrainian side of the border to those waiting in line to cross via entry points.

Chefs Oringer and Tsai, alongside award-winning documentary filmmakers Nina & David Fialkow, together had the idea to host the fundraiser supporting World Central Kitchen. They moved quickly to promote the April 10th dinner, which takes place at Uni [370A Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215] and features a special discussion with former US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, a long-time friend of the chefs and a global warrior for human rights. Boston’s chef and food-loving community responded immediately, and the dinner sold out and met its fundraising goals within days of the announcement.
