CHILE SWEEPS SOUTH AMERICA IN “MOST ADMIRED WINE BRANDS” SURVEY

CHILE SWEEPS SOUTH AMERICA IN “MOST ADMIRED WINE BRANDS” SURVEYThe recently released Drinks International survey of the Most Admired Wine Brands in the World named five Chilean wine brands among the top 50, including the number one spot. Chile is the only South American country to have brands included on the list.

“There is a trend emerging for South America in the Most Admired Wine Brands survey.” reported Drinks International, “in the first poll, three brands made the top 50. Last year, there were four. In 2013, five South Americans make the list – all from Chile.”

Concha y Toro winery came out on top in the recently released Drinks International survey for the Most Admired Wine Brands; four other Chilean brands made the top 50 including Cono Sur (#18), Leyda (#28),Santa Rita (#30), and Undurraga (#47).

Judges, a panel consisting of Masters of Wine, consultants, winemakers,  writers, retailers, educators, buyers and analysts, were asked to consider the brand’s identity in relation to its country of origin, the taste of the wine in relation to its audience, the brand’s marketing and packaging, and its ability to appeal to a large segment of wine drinkers. The brands were also to include consistent and/or bettering quality.

This is big news for the Chilean wine industry, widely regarded for quality wines at great prices.  “Concha y Toro and the other winning brands have consistently been great influencers since the beginning in terms of quality and showcasing the identity of Chilean wines,” said Lori Tieszen, Executive Director of Wines of Chile USA, “this is just another indicator that the world is paying attention and is ready to see what Chilean wine is really all about.”
