Laurel Glen Vineyard Releases “The Laureate” Cabernet Sauvignon

Laurel Glen Vineyard Releases “The Laureate” Cabernet SauvignonLaurel Glen Vineyard today announced the release of ‘The Laureate’ Cabernet Sauvignon. The new wine was created as a tribute to David Ramey who became the consulting winemaker for the vineyard in early 2011.

“David feels Cabernet should be a hedonistic experience that gives pleasure from the first sip,” explained Randall Watkins, Winemaker for Laurel Glen Vineyard. “However, the rest of the team feels that without complexity and minerality, Cabernet cannot be truly great. Opinions aside, this wine beautifully showcases the stylistic range that our great Cabernet vineyard is capable of.”

Watkins went on to describe ‘The Laureate’ as “temptingly rich, with complex mocha, and spicy sage notes while showing depth, stunning concentration and purity. It lingers gracefully.”

The Laureate is made from four barrels of the richest, most powerful vineyard lot of Cabernet produced in 2010 and is an unabashedly opulent wine. It is made of 100% estate Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 75% new, 100% Taransaud French oak barrels. Less than 90 cases were bottled without filtration and are available only direct from the winery.

About Laurel Glen Vineyard
Laurel Glen Vineyard, a thousand feet up the slopes of Sonoma Mountain, has long been considered one of the iconic Cabernet vineyards in California. Originally planted in the 1880’s, the modern vineyard was developed in the 1970’s by wine pioneer Patrick Campbell. In 2011, the vineyard and winery were sold to a group of investors, led by Bettina Sichel. Sichel and her team, which includes Phil Coturri in the vineyard, Randall Watkins and David Ramey in the cellar, are pursuing a long-term plan to restore one of the great Cabernet vineyards of California.
