MOJOS&™ ENTERS THE CHICKEN SANDWICH WAR WITH A SIDE OF INCLUSION AND COMMUNITY ACTIVISM

Mojos&™, a new virtual brand specializing in premium fried chicken and proprietary “Mojo® Potatoes”, is now delivering its Big Clucker sandwich to the Los Angeles area, after a soft launch in mid-December. A delivery-only concept from the makers of Shakey’s® Pizza, Mojos&™ features a capsule menu which includes crispy fried chicken sandwiches, bone-in fried chicken and Shakey’s famous Mojo Potatoes.

Born and breaded in LA, the Mojos&™ concept was developed to deliver superior quality food at an affordable price as an alternative to on-premise dining due the negative impacts of Covid-19 on sit-down restaurant traffic and sales.

“The Shakey’s business model has historically been a dine-in experience, often serving large family and friends get-togethers. When the pandemic hit and indoor dining was shuttered throughout most of California, we expanded our capabilities for delivery, curbside pick-up and patio seating. Since we are still operating well below capacity, the idea of creating a delivery-only concept featuring our craveable fried chicken with a twist made a lot of sense,” said Nick Mayer, Shakey’s Pizza CEO. “The pivot was not only designed to optimize back-of-house operations and keep hundreds of valued team members employed, but also fill a gap within the competitive landscape that has largely dismissed an important segment of the population.

With a mission to support equity and inclusion, Mojos&™ is going head-to-head with other established fast-food concepts – delivering hot and crispy chicken with Mojos® seven days a week and welcoming diverse populations throughout Los Angeles, with a particular emphasis on the city’s vibrant LGBTQ community. “LGBTQ representation matters, and we see that even when it comes to chicken sandwiches. With Mojos&™ support for the LGBTQ community, I can put ‘fried chicken where my mouth is,'” Andrew Miller, Director of Operations, Varsity Gay League.

In concert with its mid-December launch, Mojos&™ partnered with local Los Angeles nonprofit Beauty 2 The Streetz, founded and run by homeless advocate Shirley Raines, which provides weekly personal care services and meals to the homeless community in Downtown Los Angeles. Beauty 2 The Streetz was able to serve Mojos&™ fried chicken and Mojos to guests during their holiday celebration. As part of its ongoing community activism, Mojos&™ is planning a similar collaboration in January with My Friend’s Place, a Hollywood-based nonprofit serving homeless and at-risk LGBTQ+ youth.

Partnered with DoorDash, Mojos&™ is currently available for delivery in and around popular LA neighborhoods including Culver City, Hollywood, West Hollywood, East Los Angeles, South Bay, North Hollywood, Mid-Wilshire, Alhambra/South Pasadena, and Downtown LA.
