MR. PURPLE DEBUTS AT HOTEL INDIGO™ LOWER EAST SIDE

Gerber Group opened Mr. Purple, a rooftop bar and restaurant located on the 15th floor of the brand new Hotel Indigo™ Lower East Side (180 Orchard Street). Capturing the vibrant and artistic spirit of the LES, the indoor and outdoor space designed by the internationally acclaimed firm Crème Design, recreates an artist-loft ambiance. As the hospitality group’s first downtown property, Mr. Purple will feature a variety of the eclectic neighborhood’s iconic culinary dishes, in addition to Gerber Group’s distinguished bar program.

“We are extremely proud to introduce Mr. Purple to the vibrant Lower East Side community,” said Scott Gerber, Principal and CEO of Gerber Group. “We have worked hard to ensure the fabric of the neighborhood flows through every detail of the menu and property, to give Mr. Purple a truly authentic LES, New York vibe.”

Upon entering the 3,000 sq. ft. interior space, the extensive bar acts as a focal point with downtown New York as a backdrop visible through a tall glass façade.  The loft ambiance is displayed through the use of wood structures, juxtaposed with concrete, metal, free hanging lights, and contemporary wooden furniture.  The interior space is complemented by two terraces. The smaller 750 sq. ft. eastern terrace is perfect for an intimate gathering. The larger terrace located on the west side of the space measures 5,000 sq. ft., and is outfitted with its own swimming pool, bar and variety of seating options including chaise lounges, banquettes, and high top communal tables.

Mr. Purple’s menu will connect with local iconic culinary staples such as 2nd Avenue Deli, Melt Bakery, Russ & Daughters, il laboratorio del gelato, Yonah Schimmel Knish Bakery, and Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, in addition to featuring locally sourced ingredients. The bar menu features an expansive collection of small-batch spirits, regionally brewed craft beers, universal wine offerings and a rotating selection of Gerber Group’s classic and modern cocktails that highlight market fresh ingredients. Signature sips include refined twists on classic cocktails like the GG Manhattan and Old Fashioned, in addition to craft cocktails carbonated and bottled in-house. Mr. Purple also serves fresh cold-pressed juices and handcrafted coffee from local purveyors Liquiteria and Irving Farm Coffee Roasters.

Mr. Purple, a fictitious artist, can be described as a loner and free spirit.  A mysterious man, born and raised in the Lower East Side, the city was his muse. He was an unmistakable staple of the neighborhood and an unforgettable piece of its continuing character. His art, like his personality, was ephemeral with no known relics outlasting him. It has been said that to see him work was to have a glimpse into utopia. For now, Mr. Purple, and all that he represents, is up to your imagination to interpret.

 Gerber Group’s Mr. Purple is open 7 Days a week; MondayFriday: 12 p.m. – 4 a.m. and SaturdaySunday: 10 a.m. – 4 a.m.; private event space is also available.
