Westin Nova Scotian to Raise Money for Addiction Awareness with Specialty Mocktail

Fordian slipToronto Mayor Rob Ford’s ‘crack’ up could not be more timely. He’s got headline writers working overtime, given late night comedians plenty of fodder and raised awareness of the dangers of addiction just in time for National Addictions Awareness Week, November 18 – 24. He also inspired a clever bartender at Roy’s Lounge in the Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax to borrow a page from the bartender’s manual and shake up the fundraising scene. Instead of concocting a Rob Roy, the bar’s namesake cocktail, he’s developed a Get Well Mocktail, an antioxidant-rich blend of mulled de café chai tea, marmalade, honey, orange and cinnamon, all on Westin’s menu of superFoods, and named it the Fordian Slip.

The Fordian Slip will be served in Roy’s Lounge at the Westin Nova Scotian in honor of National Addictions Awareness Week. The hotel will donate the full $3 cost of each mocktail sold through November 30 to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

“At the Westin, our entire focus is on the guest’s well-being,” said bartender John-Allen Moore. “Mayor Ford has presented us with a once-in-a-lifetime teaching moment about the dangers of addiction and we sincerely hope that he gets well soon. Hopefully, our cheeky little promotion can raise some money for an important cause and help start a conversation on a very difficult topic that affects far too many families. Maybe it will even inspire the mayor to get the help he needs.”
