The New York City Modern Extended Stay Hotel Now Taking Reservations
Featuring 33 guest suites, the interior of The William blurs the line between architecture, interior design and art. Designers Mason Wickham, Edwin Zawadzki, and Lilian Bakhash collaborated with artist William Engel to create interior spaces inspired by his works. Each floor is an exploration into monochromatic color theory, painted in unabashed blues, teals, reds, greens or oranges.
The design team, who met under the roof of the New York School of Interior Design as professors and student, decided to work in a combined studio during the development phase of The William. Their cohabitation allowed each of their individual artistic processes to converge. The hotel architecture and design became an extension of Engel’s paintings, and vice versa. Within this creative ecosystem, each hand-crafted guest suite was transformed into a livable three-dimensional painting. “Working together atelier style meant that we literally lived and breathed the Dutch oils used in Bill’s paintings,” notes Mason Wickham of In Situ Design. “As a result, the guest rooms are seeped in color that is not decorative, but visceral, three-dimensional and fully immersive.”
A host of in-room amenities have been specifically crafted with the long stay guest in mind. Plush pillow top mattresses, luxurious duvets, fine Italian linens by Mascioni, and large windows with blackout shades provide the ultimate in comfort. Menswear-inspired bathrooms feature deluxe rain showers, Frette bath towels, and L’Occitane bath products. Additional features include Nespresso coffee and tea machines, Miya Japanese tableware, laptop-accommodating safes, and individual climate control. As a technologically forward thinking property, each suite at The William is equipped with an HD smart television and fully integrated sound system, which seamlessly sync with applications on any mobile device, giving guests full control over their entertainment experience.
For discerning travelers looking for an enhanced service experience, the hotel also offers an exclusive, private membership program, The William Private Circle. This limited-member fellowship preserves the building’s rich history of housing distinguished private organizations, including The Williams Club, an alumni social club for the renowned liberal arts school Williams College.
In addition to a rooftop opening in the spring of 2014, the property features two food and beverage offerings developed by restaurateurs Jason Hicks of Jones Wood Foundry and Yves Jadot of Raines Law Room. The Peacock and The Shakespeare Pub will be helmed by Chef Robert Aikens, former chef at Stephen Starr’s The Dandelion in Philadelphia. From a sophisticated menu of classic British cuisine to relaxed pub fare, cask ales, and wine, the venues will serve guests and locals alike.
The Peacock
The Peacock, helmed by Chef Robert Aiken, is our full-service fine dining restaurant serving traditional British fare. Enter through The William lobby and be transported into a traditional style dining room featuring rich wood paneling, oak parquet floors, marble fireplaces, and a lush outdoor terrace. The Library, a club room tucked into the entrance of the building, offers alternative lounge seating anchored by a long mahogany bar for impromptu meetings and after work rendezvous.
Shakespeare’s Pub
Located in The William’s English basement, Shakespeare’s Pub provides guests and locals a laid-back cavern. The venue features casual pub fare in addition to an extensive beer list. Repurposed wood beams run along the ceiling and rich wood paneling wraps the walls. Take a seat at the 30-foot-long bar or slip into a private nook and enjoy our featured selections on tap.
