Kent Hospitality Group’s Flagship Restaurant Revamps Menu and Guest Experience Under New Culinary Vision

NEW YORK, Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Kent Hospitality Group today announced a bold new chapter for Saga, the Michelin two-star restaurant soaring above the 63rd floor of the landmark 70 Pine Street in New York City’s Financial District. Acclaimed culinary visionary Chef Charlie Mitchell now takes the helm, introducing a refreshed menu, design, and guest experience that redefines modern fine dining.

Meet Chef Charlie Mitchell: A Culinary Visionary

At just 33, Chef Charlie Mitchell made history as the first Black chef in New York City to earn a Michelin star. A veteran of Eleven Madison Park, Mitchell now brings his soulful, innovative approach to Saga.

His new tasting menu blends French technique with deeply personal influences—flavors inspired by his grandmother’s Southern cooking, traditions from his Detroit upbringing, and his love for Japanese seafood. The result is soulful cuisine executed with precision.

Redefining Saga: A Fusion of Culture and Fine Dining

Saga’s transformation is more than culinary—it extends to design, fashion, and cultural storytelling. The restaurant has undergone a light renovation by Modellus Novus and a refreshed identity nodding to the Financial District of the 1990s, while embracing today’s global fine dining ethos.

To complement Mitchell’s vision, fashion designer Sergio Hudson created bold staff uniforms inspired by Wall Street silhouettes, and Grace Wales Bonner designed a custom chef’s jacket for Mitchell—blending haute couture with hospitality.

Honoring a Legacy, Building the Future

Mitchell’s appointment is both professional and deeply personal. After the passing of his mentor James Kent in 2024, Mitchell stepped forward to lead Saga, leaving his intimate 26-seat Clover Hill to take the reins of one of New York’s most iconic dining rooms.

“I’m grateful to the many great chefs who came before me, gave me opportunities, and shaped my craft — people like Daniel Humm and James Kent,” said Mitchell. “But I’m equally inspired by creative entrepreneurs like Virgil Abloh and Jay-Z, who mastered their craft while staying true to their roots and bringing their communities with them. I’m a kid from Detroit—that’s the perspective I bring to Saga.”

A New Era for Saga’s Guests

Saga’s refreshed vision opened to the public on September 1st, 2025, with reservations available exclusively via Resy. Guests can expect:

  • A new tasting menu rooted in French precision and soulful influences
  • A refined interior design with modern cultural elements
  • A fine dining experience that connects heritage, artistry, and community

“Charlie is one of the most gifted chefs I’ve had the privilege to work alongside,” said Daniel Humm, chef and owner of Eleven Madison Park. “His cooking has a rare combination of precision, creativity, and soul – making him the perfect chef to carry Saga’s legacy forward.”
