Imagine walking into a New Orleans French Quarter bar and finding yourself, for a week, inside Hong Kong's Bar Leone. Then the space transforms into Edinburgh's Panda & Sons. Then Mexico City's Brujas. That's the audacious premise behind The Cocktail Hour, a new residency program from the team behind award-winning tavern Jewel of the South — and it may be one of the most ambitious hospitality concepts to hit the cocktail world in years.
Launching this October, The Cocktail Hour reimagines the traditional guest shift as something far bigger: multi-day, fully immersive residencies where the world's most celebrated bars take over a dedicated New Orleans venue and rebuild it in their own image — from cocktails and paired bites to design, music, and storytelling.
What Is The Cocktail Hour?
Created by Jewel of the South founders John Stubbs and Chris Hannah alongside hospitality veteran Deke Dunne, The Cocktail Hour will bring acclaimed cocktail bars from around the globe to a new dedicated venue in New Orleans' historic French Quarter, to be announced in the coming weeks.
The concept treats that venue as a blank canvas. Each participating bar transforms it into an authentic extension of its own identity — bespoke interiors, signature cocktails, curated bites, music, and distinct storytelling defined by the visiting team. In short: guests can step inside the world's best bars without ever leaving New Orleans.
"New Orleans has always been a city where people come together through food, drink, fellowship and storytelling. With The Cocktail Hour, we're creating a platform for the world's best bars to become part of the fabric of that tradition. New Orleans holds a uniquely prominent position in the history of refined cocktails, and there is no better location to connect with the best craft cocktail practitioners in the world and showcase their talents for our guests," said Chris Hannah, co-founder, partner and beverage director of Jewel of the South.
Five Seasonal Chapters, One Cultural Calendar
Running from mid-October 2026 through mid-June 2027, the inaugural season unfolds across five seasonal chapters inspired by the cultural rhythms of New Orleans — beginning with Samhain in October and continuing through the holidays, Carnival, festival season, and summer. Every chapter is rooted in the city's unique cultural calendar while celebrating the traditions and creative perspective of each visiting bar.
Each residency will feature public experiences throughout the week, with a curated menu of cocktails from the visiting bar, thoughtfully paired bites, and the signature hospitality that has made each destination world-renowned.
The Inaugural Lineup
The first collaborators set the bar high:
Additional bars already confirmed for residencies include the current World's 50 Best Bars No. 1, Bar Leone (Hong Kong), and the current North America's Best Bars No. 1, Sip & Guzzle (New York City). Further participating bars, venue information, and ticket details will be announced ahead of each residency.
The People Behind the Program
Jewel of the South is no stranger to global recognition. Housed in an 1830s Creole cottage in the French Quarter, the modern New Orleans tavern has won the James Beard award for Outstanding Bar Program, been named Best Restaurant Bar in America, and climbed to #6 on the 2026 North America's 50 Best Bars list. Co-founder Chris Hannah was recently recognized with the 50 Best Bars Roku Industry Icon Award 2026.
The Cocktail Hour also marks the next chapter for Deke Dunne, who joins after serving as Beverage and Creative Director at Allegory in Washington, D.C. — the only bar to win North America's 50 Best Bars Best Cocktail Menu twice. Dunne will oversee the production and creative execution of the residency program, working alongside each participating bar. He's also developing his own dream bar concept, set to open in Washington, D.C., in 2027.
"Every great bar has its own personality, and that extends far beyond what's in the glass. It's the hospitality, the music, the design, the rituals and the people that make each place memorable. The Cocktail Hour gives us the opportunity to celebrate those elements by giving every participating bar the freedom to create an experience that feels true to who they are, all within one of the world's great hospitality cities," said Deke Dunne, The Cocktail Hour Creative and Project Lead.
Why It Matters
For bar operators and beverage directors, The Cocktail Hour is a masterclass in the experience economy. Guests today aren't just buying a drink — they're buying access, story, and a sense of place. By turning a single venue into a rotating stage for global talent, Jewel of the South is monetizing scarcity and novelty in a way a static concept never could.
The practical takeaways for hospitality professionals:
- Residencies drive urgency and repeat visits. A limited-run, ticketed format gives guests a reason to book now and return often — a proven lever for beverage programs looking to reengineer for demand and margin.
- Collaboration is a marketing multiplier. Each visiting bar brings its own audience, press, and social reach, expanding the host venue's footprint far beyond its local market.
- Destination programming builds category leadership. Positioning New Orleans as a hub for global cocktail culture reinforces the city's — and the host's — authority, a strategy any market can adapt.
For institutional buyers, event planners, and hospitality executives, it's also a reminder that the future of premium F&B is increasingly about curated, time-bound experiences that can't be replicated at home.
