The great clean-label reckoning just got a new heavyweight. On July 20, 2026, SuanNutra — a global supplier of science-backed branded and functional ingredients and a portfolio company of Carbyne Equity Partners — announced an agreement to acquire a portfolio of specialty natural ingredients businesses from IFF (NYSE: IFF). For food and beverage operators, formulators, and procurement teams watching the industry-wide exit from synthetic colors, preservatives, and flavors, this is a deal worth understanding.

The acquired businesses will merge with SuanNutra's existing operations to create an enlarged global group focused on science-backed natural ingredients. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

What SuanNutra Is Actually Buying

This isn't a bolt-on. The businesses joining SuanNutra bring a deep, complementary bench of natural ingredients spanning both nutraceuticals and food ingredients:

  • An expanded range of clinically tested branded ingredients
  • Self-manufactured botanical extracts sourced directly from growing regions
  • Science-backed fermented vitamins and minerals
  • Plant-based natural colors, antioxidants, and flavors

Manufacturing is genuinely global and vertically integrated: botanical extraction in Spain, Slovenia, and Peru, plus fermentation in the United States. Once combined, the group will employ around 700 people serving more than 1,200 customers across over 60 countries. Both companies stressed that customers will continue to be served seamlessly and without interruption, with ongoing investment in commercial capacity, R&D, and innovation across the expanded group.

Riding the Shift From Synthetic to Natural and Clean Label

The merger sharpens SuanNutra's "Visible Health" strategy — clinically tested ingredients designed to deliver benefits consumers can see and feel. On the food side, the addition of natural colors, antioxidants, and flavors places the group squarely at the center of the industry's accelerating move away from synthetic colorants, preservatives, and flavors toward natural, clean-label alternatives.

"The dedicated, experienced people in these businesses know the products and customers very well, and that expertise is central to everything we want to achieve. Together we will build and grow this group into a stronger partner for our customers — offering local manufacturing, clinically tested ingredients, and a broad range of natural products across nutraceuticals and food ingredients," said Anthony Weston, Group CEO of SuanNutra.

"Clinically proven branded ingredients are the future of this industry — proven actives that are scientifically grounded. With this expansion, SuanNutra takes a leading role in that shift. The transition from artificial colors and preservatives to natural, scientifically proven ingredients is transforming the food and health industry faster than ever," added Yoni Glickman, non-executive Chairman of SuanNutra.

The Investor View

For Carbyne Equity Partners, the deal reflects a clear thesis around specialty ingredients as a growth sector.

"SuanNutra has a clear strategy and a management team that understands these businesses and their markets. This combination creates a plant-based ingredients group of significant scale and scientific credibility, and we are pleased to support the team in building it. We look forward to the opportunities these teams and SuanNutra will create together," said Markus Petersen, Managing Partner of Carbyne Equity Partners.

"Specialty ingredients are at the heart of Carbyne's investment strategy. This transaction expands the group's portfolio with a global offering of natural ingredients, and we are strengthening our focus on this sector," summarized Mai Karas, Investment Director at Carbyne Equity Partners.

Why It Matters

Reformulation pressure is no longer optional for food and beverage brands. Regulators, retailers, and consumers are pushing operators off synthetic dyes, preservatives, and artificial flavors — and the bottleneck for many is supply: can you source natural colors, antioxidants, flavors, and clinically backed actives at commercial scale, from documented origins, without disrupting production?

For procurement directors, foodservice executives, and institutional buyers, a consolidated group of this size signals a few practical things:

  • Scale and continuity. A 700-employee group serving 1,200+ customers in 60+ countries is positioned to supply reformulation programs without the fragility of a niche vendor.
  • Traceability as a selling point. Self-manufactured extracts sourced directly from growing regions in Spain, Slovenia, and Peru support clean-label claims and origin storytelling that resonate on menus and packaging.
  • Clinically backed differentiation. Branded, proven actives let better-for-you and functional products make credible, defensible claims — a growing competitive edge in functional food and beverage categories.

The takeaway: if your roadmap includes clean-label conversions or functional launches, the supplier landscape is consolidating around science and traceability. Build those requirements into your sourcing conversations now.
