AUSTRIAN WINE USA TO CELBRATE RED WINES, ZWEIGELT’S 90TH

This autumn, the Austrian Wine Marketing Board will shift their US focus from the popular white grapes Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, & others to the red wines of Austria for the largest, nation-wide celebration of Austrian red wine ever in North America.

The celebration will feature a variety of tasting events, wine dinners, seminars, and more across the country and virtually during which consumers will have the opportunity to taste the indigenous grapes Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and St. Laurent, as well as Pinot Noir and red cuvees. An interactive map of “where to buy/taste” the reds of Austria across the country in both on-premise and off-premise accounts is also available on their website AustrianWineUSA.com.

The celebration was born in conjunction with the birth of Austria’s newest DAC, Neusiedlersee DAC, announced earlier this year, Zweigelt, the grape’s, 90th birthday, and a visit of the Wines of Burgenland organization to New York City.

“We are excited to focus on the red wines of Austria this season,” said Willi Klinger, Managing Director of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, “we do a lot with our signature grape, Gruner Veltliner, but interest in Austria’s red wines is on the rise and that’s something to celebrate.”
