Embracing the Essence of Togetherness
Alessi, a titan in the world of Italian design, is set to make waves during Milan Design Week 2026 with an oversized installation titled La Bella Tavola. This project celebrates the table not just as a functional object, but as a vital space for relationships and rituals. Designed by Andrea Incontri, the installation pays homage to the legendary designer Ettore Sottsass and intertwines the theme of bread with the experience of dining, echoing the profound importance of communal meals in Italian culture.

Rediscovering the Art of the Table
“I think it is very difficult to design a ‘beautiful table’; it doesn’t depend only on the design of the implements used on it, but on a subtle, frail, uncertain wisdom…” — Ettore Sottsass. This insightful quote lays the groundwork for La Bella Tavola, which embodies the spirit of conviviality by transforming the table into a stage for shared experiences. The project will be open to the public from April 21 to 26, 2026, at the Palazzo Stampa di Soncino, right in the heart of Milan, where visitors can immerse themselves in a celebration of community and culture.

A Journey Through Time and Design
At the heart of La Bella Tavola lies a large circular table, symbolizing unity and inclusiveness, surrounded by iconic mill-totems designed by Sottsass, scaled to mesmerizing proportions. This installation doesn’t just invite guests to view art; it encourages them to participate actively in a cultural dialogue centered around food.
This experience will be divided into two key moments: breakfast and aperitivo. Both sessions will revolve around the centerpiece of Italian culture—bread—and its various pairings, presenting a unique opportunity to explore the culinary arts through the lens of design. This collaboration with Spacedelicious, a cultural platform dedicated to Italian gastronomy, ensures that every aspect of the experience is rooted in quality and authenticity.
The Intersection of Food and Design
Spacedelicious, founded by Maurizio Tentella, combines gastronomic research with editorial storytelling, focusing on micro-supply chains and lesser-known territories. This partnership highlights how the worlds of food and design can converge, creating a richer cultural experience that elevates the simple act of dining into an artistic ritual.

Reviving Classic Designs
La Bella Tavola is not just a new venture; it is a revival of the first tableware collection produced by Alessi, originally conceived in 1993. This collection includes the iconic 5070 condiment set, as well as salt and spice mills, centerpiece bowls, and cutlery that exemplify Sottsass’s vision of modern classicism. The re-edition maintains the high standards of German manufacturing, showcasing both a white version and a decorated version known as My Beautiful China.
The design philosophy emphasizes a balance between form and function, with wide rims and thin profiles—an aesthetic that lends itself to timeless elegance. The subtle details, such as color and geometry in the decorations, reflect Sottsass’s belief that beauty lies in the imperfections, allowing for creative combinations on the dining table.

Alessi: A Legacy of Design Excellence
Founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi in Omegna, Piedmont, Alessi has become a beacon of Italian design. With over three hundred collaborations with renowned designers and architects, the company has produced iconic objects that have shaped the landscape of contemporary design. Engaging with the Community
As part of the La Bella Tavola experience at Milan Design Week 2026, attendees will not only witness stunning designs but will also engage in meaningful conversations about food, culture, and design. This installation aims to create a community atmosphere where shared meals and stories come to life, enhancing the bond between people and their surroundings.
