Here's a masterclass in owning a holiday you didn't invent. July 27 is widely recognized as National Chicken Finger Day—but Huey Magoo's has decided that name doesn't fit the food, so it's rebranding the occasion entirely.

The fast-casual chain, built around premium chicken tenderloins, is declaring July 27 National Filet Mignon of Chicken Day—and backing the claim with a one-day-only buy-one-get-one offer that gives guests a free 3-Piece Tender Meal with the purchase of any 3-Piece Tender Meal or larger.

The One-Day-Only BOGO Details

On Monday, July 27, Huey Magoo's is offering a free 3-Piece Tender Meal with the purchase of any 3-Piece Tender Meal or larger. The offer is:

  • Exclusive to Magoo's Rewards members—a smart loyalty play, not just a giveaway.
  • Redeemable through the Magoo's Rewards app, in-restaurant, or at HueyMagoos.com.
  • Available online and in store while supplies last.

Why "Filet Mignon of Chicken" Isn't Just a Slogan

Huey Magoo's has long branded its product as the Filet Mignon of Chicken®, and the company leans hard into the reasoning behind the rebrand.

"We've never identified with the name National Chicken Finger Day because it doesn't reflect who we are," said Andy Howard, CEO and president of Huey Magoo's. "There are no fingers on chickens. At Huey Magoo's, we're all about premium chicken tenders. We have proudly referred to our delicious, high-quality chicken as the Filet Mignon of Chicken® for years, so it only made sense to celebrate what we actually offer. And what better way than treating our guests to a free Tender Meal, made fresh to order?"

The product story does the heavy lifting. Huey Magoo's tenders are made exclusively from the premium tenderloin—what the brand calls the best three percent of the chicken. Every tender is marinated for 24 hours, then hand-breaded or grilled and made fresh to order, served plain or sauced and tossed in one of the brand's signature flavors.

The menu spans 3-, 5- and 7-Piece Tender Meals and a 10-piece Tender Bites Meal—each served with Texas toast, hand-spun chips or fries, house-made coleslaw and a choice of dipping sauces—plus sandwiches, wraps and fresh-made salads. With 10 signature sauces and dips, including Magoo's, Spicy Magoo's and Ranch, the chain gives guests plenty of reasons to trade up.

A Brand on the Rise

Founded in 2004, Huey Magoo's has become one of the fastest-growing fast-casual brands in the chicken category. The company was recently ranked No. 4 in USA TODAY 10BEST's 2026 Readers' Choice Awards for Best Fast Food Fried Chicken and landed on Fast Casual's 2026 Top 100 Movers + Shakers list. It now operates in 12 states and continues to expand.

Why It Matters

This is a low-cost, high-leverage marketing move that QSR and fast-casual operators should study closely. Instead of competing for attention on a crowded national food holiday, Huey Magoo's reframed the day to reinforce its core brand promise—the tenderloin-only difference—turning a promotion into a positioning statement.

A few takeaways for operators and foodservice marketers:

  • Gate the deal behind loyalty. Making the BOGO exclusive to Magoo's Rewards members drives app downloads, captures first-party data, and builds a channel the brand controls—far more valuable than a discount handed to anyone walking by.
  • Tie the promo to your differentiator. The offer doesn't just move traffic; it retells the premium-tenderloin story that justifies the brand's pricing and quality claims.
  • Own a moment rather than chase one. Coining a proprietary "holiday" is a repeatable, ownable annual hook—the kind of earned-media play that keeps working year after year.

For a category where menu innovation and loyalty engagement increasingly separate winners from also-rans, it's a reminder that the sharpest restaurant marketing often costs less than a media buy.
