PleasureMed: Fusion of Design Dispensary, California Eatery

PleasureMed launches as the city’s premiere destination for a novel sensory experience. Spanning over 6,500 square feet of botanical bliss, the multifaceted two-story space offers a state-of-the-art dispensary; a destination restaurant serving Californian-inspired farm to table cuisine; and an intimate outdoor lounge space for craft cocktails.

Located on vibrant Santa Monica Boulevard, PleasureMed neighbors Pleasure Chest, the iconic adult boutique owned by Brian Robinson, which first opened its doors in New York in 1971. The launch of PleasureMed marks Robinson’s venture into the cannabis and hospitality sector.

Designed by Studio UNLTD, visitors are welcomed into a grand light-filled space, inspired by the apothecaries of Havana, with soaring 13-foot coffered ceilings. Intricate checkered marble flooring under dramatic ivory beaded chandeliers leads to an extensive dispensary space displaying a variety of cannabis strains and products, with a focus on local and family-owned producers.

The public is invited to explore the curated selection and encouraged to speak with PleasureMed’s Cannabis experts to discuss their needs, as it marks the next generation in cannabis retail including:

Apocalypze – a woman-owned and operated company with flower strains ranging from Zombaeland to Space Dust

Artet – a family-owned business with CBD and THC infused sprtizes and mixers, for the perfect aperitif

Wyld – the first carbon-neutral cannabis edibles company, using real fruit and natural flavors

A staircase with an intricate mural by Pablo Sison, leads to the second floor of PleasureMed, home to the destination restaurant, Irie. Named after the Jamaican word for ‘everything is alright’, this 135-cover restaurant offers a highly curated, farm to table menu with ingredients sourced from the best purveyors in the country. Bespoke elements within Irie include custom carved dining-booths with a walnut finish and a marble-topped bar with copper facing featuring fluted glazing, elegantly underscoring the grandeur of the space. The menu will cater to a diverse range of diners and dietary preferences, with highlights including:

Dandelion & Frisee Caesar bottarga, croutons, parmesan

Barramundi rapini – preserved lemon, fume

Venison Burger – aioli, sesame bun, tomato, sweet & sours, arugula, cheddar

Hidden Pearl Lion’s Mane Cakes – vegan aioli, basil, cilantro, lime

Filled with plants and natural light, Irie transports visitors to an oasis while they enjoy exquisite dishes as laidback afro-latino beats play. Akin to a sommelier, diners will be greeted by cannaseurs, who have expert knowledge of the variety of cannabis strains and products. Should guests wish to consume, these experts will guide patrons through the dedicated menu of offerings. Irie also fosters a comfortable environment for those solely interested in an exceptional food and beverage experience. For more intimate moments, a private dining room is tastefully secluded from the main space and able to accommodate up to 15 seated guests.

Located directly behind the dispensary space lives the cheekily-named outdoor bar and lounge, Hind. Accommodating up to 45 people, pleasure-inspired craft cocktails (both alcoholic and zero proof) are served alongside dishes from Irie. The intimate space designed for socializing features custom white oak table tops and deeply veined leathered marble.

The exterior of the property features a 67’ x 30’, 4-minute 3D video art experience that has been exclusively created by Optical Animal and Brian Robinson to illuminate the side of the PleasureMed building. Titled The Jaguar’s Eye, the show-stopping piece takes viewers on a journey from the microscopic to the cosmic, finding familiar forms among a diverse cast of characters, environments, flora, and fauna. This projection will welcome new displays on a rolling basis from local artists and serve as a larger-than-life canvas, on the iconic Route 66 highway.

A nod to the Caribbean island of Cuba, Dispensary staff are outfitted in chic Guayabera shirts while restaurant and bar staff can be spotted in green leather aprons. Vintage decor in the form of cutlery and jadeite serving platters perfectly complement personalized details such as ashtrays. Meanwhile, an exclusive scent crafted by LA-based INTI Candles fills the air with notes of patchouli, palo santo, tobacco and leather saffron.

Changing the way that dispensaries are perceived and experienced, PleasureMed provides a welcoming and inclusive space for smokers and non-smokers alike through the use of TerraBloom carbon filters. In concepting PleasureMed, Robinson aims to change the world’s understanding of the cannabis lounge space by making it approachable for all to enjoy.

As a mission-driven company, meaningful integration into the community is paramount to PleasureMed’s offering. With the backing of the West Hollywood council and a thorough application process emphasizing economic development, public safety, and purpose-driven initiatives, this innovative space will offer diverse sensory experiences for the local community to enjoy. Emphasizing community involvement, the engagement plans include a dedication to donate 4% of profits to a range of LGBTQ and Social Justice Reform nonprofits in Los Angeles – with an additional 1% being distributed to patron/employee nominated nonprofits.
