INTRODUCING THE COCO CLUB: SANTA MONICA’S NEWEST ROOFTOP BAR

Boulevard Hospitality Group is thrilled to announce the opening of The Coco Club. Perched atop The Beacon by Sonder, this cocktail bar is the newest hotspot in Santa Monica for exquisite cocktails and breathtaking views spanning from Venice Beach to the Santa Monica Pier, stretching up the Malibu Coastline.

Situated on Ocean Avenue, on the penthouse level (7th floor) of the property, the elevated rooftop pays homage to the iconic destinations of the 1900s, The Cocoanut Grove and The Coconut Club. Born in the Jazz Age in 1921, The Cocoanut Grove was a nightclub inside the Ambassador Hotel with lavish exotic decor that once hosted Hollywood’s elite and closed its doors in 1989. Years later, in 1998 The Coconut Club opened inside the Beverly Hilton and was brought to life with the sounds of Latin Jazz and 70s disco, and quickly became a celebrity hotspot. This rich history inspired the creation of The Coco Club.

A rare rooftop gem, the sun-soaked lounge hosts regular live entertainment, with weekend DJ sets after 10 pm, featuring vibrant house music and open format sets. Guests are invited to savor handcrafted cocktails curated by the esteemed bartender, Dushan Zaric while enjoying the bar’s weekday and sunset specials. The Coco Club’s beverage program is inspired by the locale, with each cocktail embodying the playfulness and fun nature of the beachside location and beyond:

Coco Killer

Ten to One Rum, coconut, passion fruit, sriracha agave, citrus

White Lotus

Lychee infused Fords gin, pink peppercorn, clarified lime cordial, plum bitters, lime leaf

Desperado

El Tesoro Blanco, Cihuatan rum infused pineapple, honey, vanilla, spiced sangria tinta, orange bitters

Upon entering, the interior dazzles with Art Deco accents, with birds of paradise wallpaper, complemented by feathery peach chandeliers that adorn the ceiling. Brass plant pots line the walls, filled with lush greenery alongside luxurious velvet verdant banquettes. The bar’s backsplash is covered in black and white Art Deco tiles with rose-colored stools. Stepping out onto the terrace, rattan stools line the retro checkered balcony, offering panoramic ocean views where one can catch a breathtaking sunset. Alternatively, guests can unwind in the outdoor lounge area around the fire pit, which accommodates 40 people, with twinkling festoon lights suspended above.

“We are thrilled to unveil Santa Monica’s newest rooftop hangout. The Coco Club offers a rare opportunity to experience an oceanfront rooftop bar in Santa Monica, with incredible panoramic views, craft cocktails, and regular nightly programming” says BHG Managing Partner, Spencer Kushner.

The Coco Club is the latest project brought to life by Boulevard Hospitality Group, renowned for curating culinary and nightlife experiences across Southern California. Most recently, in March 2024 BHG launched Layla, a restaurant helmed by Chef Chris Sayegh, situated on the first floor of The Beacon by Sonder. Together, these ventures breathe new life into the iconic property, bringing a fresh wave of sophistication and mystique, and ensuring its storied legacy continues to thrive in the hearts of all locals and guests alike.
