Third Annual Imperial Battle of the Sexes

Napoleon House, 500 Chartres Street

In the spirit of Napoleon’s epic battles, Mandarine Napoléon will bring to Tales of the Cocktail this year the battle of all battles – man vs. woman in the Third Annual Mandarine Napoléon Imperial Battle of the Sexes.

In this truly unique event, taking place on Wednesday, July 15th at the Napoleon House, eight of the best male and female bartenders from around the country will battle it out and create original Mandarine Napoléon cocktails, with guests in attendance voting to determine their fate. Each bartender will have their own station to serve their original cocktail, while strategically soliciting votes. Guests will be able to try all cocktails presented and enjoy New Orleans style cuisine featuring Mandarine Napoléon.  In addition to the audience votes, teams will also face-off in challenges that test their knowledge, creativity and skill.

Overseeing this epic clash will be brand owner Marc de Kuyper, the infamous John Lermayer, who returns once again to host the Battle of The Sexes, and Alex Straus from The Bon Vivants.  Mathias Simonis and Jacyara De Oliveira from The Bon Vivants will preside as team captains.  At the end, one sex will be determined the winner and hailed as the conquerors. Will the women take their title back this year? Or will the men hold on to their crown?

Representing the women are: Erin Hayes (Chicago, Lost Lake), Nicole Lebedevitch (Boston, The Hawthorne), Julia Momose (Chicago, The Office) and Tess Anne Sawyer (NY, Mother’s Ruin). In the men’s corner are: Rob Crabtree (Houston, Goode Company), Adam Delguicci (Miami, Rec Room), Dev Johnson (New York, Employees Only) and Nectaly Mendoza (Las Vegas, Herbs + Rye).

The victorious team will receive a significant donation made on their behalf to the charity of their choice.

About Mandarine Napoléon

Mandarine Napoléon (SRP $37.50) is an exquisite, well-balanced blend of mandarins and refined 10-year-old aged cognac.  Dating back to the early 1800s and its roots stemming from the hands of Napoléon Bonaparte, the liqueur’s history is as rich as its distinctive flavor.  The drink was custom made for Napoléon Bonaparte after the emperor came across the chemist Antoine-François de Fourcroy, known for his extraordinary skill of distilling. It was not until 1892, after the two had died, that the liqueur was introduced to the public.  Mandarine Napoléon is currently found in well over 100 countries and relaunched in United States in 2011. Mandarine Napoléon is the first liqueur composed of mandarins and cognac, permitting a smooth taste, as opposed to the sour flavor encountered in other citrus-based liqueurs. The drink is composed of only natural ingredients.

Mandarine Napoléon has earned numerous rewards and praise, including a 5-star-rating by Simon Difford of Class Magazine, 94 points from Wine Enthusiast’s February 2012 Buying Guide, a Spirits Gold Medal at WSWA Tasting Competition 2013, an International Craft Awards 2013 Gold Medal, a Gold Medal at the 2013 Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards in the Fruit Liqueur category, and a Gold Medal and Best in Category Award for Liqueurs at the 2013 San Diego Spirits Festival International Spirits Competition.
