A New Peak For The Adirondack Mountains: Whiteface Lodge Introduces Peak 47

A New Peak For The Adirondack Mountains: Whiteface Lodge Introduces Peak 47The 46 “High Peaks” of the Adirondack Mountains have long been a draw to outdoor enthusiasts. Now, explorers (and non-adventurers, alike) can add a stop at Peak 47, the redesigned dining lounge of Whiteface Lodge, a Forbes Four-Star, AAA Four-Diamond resort in Lake Placid, N.Y.

A casual, welcoming retreat from the four-season appeals of the Adirondacks, Peak 47—formerly called Kanu Lounge—has been renovated with special emphasis around the resort’s marquee mixology program and celebrated cuisine. Seating at the remodeled bar area has more than doubled, now with 18 barnwood stools set against a new copper-topped bar made of local birch with alder wood finishes. There, guests and locals can explore Lead Mixologist Zachary Blair’s spontaneous creations, which complement the lounge’s inventive cocktail menu. During an interactive series of questions between Blair and guests, dubbed “The Game,” personal insights lead to a bespoke, of-the-moment libation. The drink might include spirits barrel-aged on-site, reflecting Blair’s latest pet project.

Highlights from Peak 47’s lunch and dinner menu—refreshed in tandem with the lounge’s interiors—include a Signature Lodge Burger on brioche bun with chipotle aioli and other trimmings; Blackened Fish Tacos featuring mahi-mahi and halibut with arugula, smoked scallion chimichurri, cabbage slaw, and jalapeno pineapple salsa; and Seared Crab Cakes with local ramps, citrus, sweet peppers, sweet corn, brown butter, and white-wine garlic. A selection of shareables include everything from Hand Cut Truffle Fries to Tuna Tartare and House Queso. Specialties like Arugula and Watercress Salad with spring strawberry, shaved radish, parmesan crisp and vanilla grapefruit vinaigrette or Spring White Pizza including local ricotta, roasted garlic, local spring vegetables and a balsamic drizzle showcase the best seasonal produce. The lounge also offers a wide variety of local and regional beers, as well as a selection of 400 regional, domestic and international wines that continuously earn the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

Live musical entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings makes Peak 47 a popular gathering spot in the summertime. It accommodates larger groups of up to 120 people, with hand carved wood high tops and traditional table seating in the lounge. The rustic lodge ambiance is enhanced by a wood-burning stone fireplace, perfect during cool summer evenings and winter getaways.
