A Tale of Two Cities – Preview Dinner – Friday, March 21This coming Spring 2014, Washington, DC chef Robert Wiedmaier has been chosen as the chef from America to welcome the newest U.S. Ambassador to the U.K., Matthew Barzun, at an exclusive reception. While in London, Wiedmaier will be the honored guest chef, along with Michelin-starred Simon Hulstone of The Elephant, at a week long Pop-Up lunch and dinner series for an ‘at home’ experience in the Chef’s Penthouse at Grosvenor House Apartments by Jumeirah Living on Park Lane. Beginning Monday, March 31 until Friday, April 4, Londoners, who are full-on foodies with a fanciful and knowledgeable love of gourmet meals, will experience an intimate dining affair collaborated by these two renowned chefs, combined with refined service of a luxury hotel with the privacy, comfort and generous living of a contemporary Mayfair residence. Steeped in history and grandeur, the building stands on site of the former home of the Dukes of Westminster.

Join us for one night only at Marcel’s in Washington, DC on Friday, March 21, 2014, at a stateside preview tasting to enjoy a seven-course dinner paired with Virginia Wines for an all-inclusive price of $165. This gastronomic celebration, prepared by chef Robert Wiedmaier and his team, will feature the official dishes that he will showcase at these momentous events in London. Guest sommelier and award-winning journalist, Jason Tesauro, will present Virginia Wines to complement each course. Chef Robert Wiedmaier’s cuisine embodies the best culinary choices of European culture with American produce that will be the focus of the dishes served at the exclusive dinner: Pan Seared Scallop with Black Fermented Garlic & Squid Ink; Filet of Turbot with Pea & Mint and Pomme Paille; Roulade of Crispy Sweetbreads with Petit Gris, Chanterelle Mushrooms and Red Wine Essence; Roasted Pigeon with Potato Risotto and Black Truffle; and Plum Tarragon Tart with Honey & Cinnamon Ice Cream. These courses are just a few of the many tantalizing options presented on this very special evening.

Chef Robert Wiedmaier has been named Chef of the Year by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington; was enthroned as a Beer Knight of the Brewers’ Mashstaff by an ancient guild in Brussels; was hand-chosen by the U.S. State Department to participate in its elite Diplomatic Culinary Partnership Initiative with the James Beard Foundation as a Chef-Ambassador; and received two James Beard Award semifinalist nods for Outstanding Service and Outstanding Wine Program in 2014.
