Bloop Frozen Yogurt to Open Next Month near Pantops

Beginning next month, Charlottesville residents will be able to enjoy flavorful FroYo from a new location on a mission to serve up more than just a sweet treat.

Bloop Frozen Yogurt will open in a 1,800-square-foot location at 1430 Rolkin Court, adjacent to the new Wells Fargo Bank, just off Richmond Road/Highway 250 in Luxor Shopping Center. Bloop offers guests 12 original flavors of frozen yogurt at a time rotating on a monthly basis, all crafted with real fruits, cocoas, coffee and more, plus a toppings bar featuring a wide variety of items including fresh fruit, when in season. Bloop also offers low fat, non-fat, sugar free, gluten free and non-dairy options, all with live active cultures.

The company opened its first store in Lynchburg last year, where it currently operates two locations, and has over a dozen locations in the works across eight states. After successful openings in Lynchburg, a group of Charlottesville residents partnered with Bloop to bring the franchise to the area as the brand begins to lay the groundwork for expansion throughout the eastern half of the United States.

Grand Opening festivities are planned for the Charlottesville store on Saturday, May 19, beginning at 11 a.m. Guests will have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes, including free yogurt for a year.

In addition to offering innovative frozen yogurt flavors in a fun, family-friendly environment, Bloop is committed to bettering the communities it serves through environmentally-conscious efforts, including usage of cups made from recycled paper instead of Styrofoam. The company also encourages and helps facilitate recycling of cups, spoons and other materials used within each of its stores.

Along with recycling initiatives, Bloop offers A Cup 4 A Cup program, donating one cup of water to a person in need for every cup of yogurt sold in all Bloop stores. The company will work with charity: water to ensure the water and funds raised through FroYo sales at Bloop will get the people most in need of clean drinking water, thus using a first-world treat to help solve a third-world problem.

“Over 30,000 people die from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions each week – and over 90% of those deaths are children,” said Daryl Calfee, co-founder of Bloop. “Our mission at Bloop is to help change that by offering a cup of clean drinking water for every cup of yogurt sold. A cup for a cup; it’s that simple.”
