Stone-baked pizza chain creates new menu for pork lovers
Bacon takes center stage in Mellow Mushroom’s latest limited time offer: Bootleg Bacon Fest. As bacon emerged as a preferred protein on menus across the country, Mellow Mushroom created a pork-inspired menu featuring the product in a truly original way.
Menu items include Wake ‘N’ Bacon, a pizza topped with sunny-side-up eggs, Applewood smoked bacon and mushrooms, and Bubba’s Bacon Bonanza, which features Applewood smoked bacon, honey-glazed ham, and pulled pork drizzled with BBQ sauce.
The creative work that accompanies the limited time offer has a backwoods tone marrying Mellow Mushroom’s well-established irreverence with an ingredient that has made its way into chocolate, mayonnaise and coffee.
“Bacon and Mellow Mushroom is a match made in heaven,” says Eddie Snyder, vice president executive creative director at Peter Mayer, the New Orleans based firm that produced the creative for Bootleg Bacon Fest. “We really had a ball creating fun and interesting pieces that will help the promotion live beyond the menu in the minds of the consumer.”
“Bacon is one of our most popular ingredients, and the addition of things like fresh eggs and produce and pulled pork really takes these menu items over the top,” says Mellow Mushroom Vice President of Brand Development Annica Kreider. “Our guests are already taking to social media to post about how much they love the new items.”
Piggybacking on the backcountry theme, the Bootleg Bacon Fest will be announced through a series of ‘60s style posters and menu designs. Mellow Mushroom customers will see one of five designs created for the limited time offer.
Bootleg Bacon Fest is available through November 15 at all Mellow Mushroom locations. Guests are encouraged to share their bacon experience on social media using the hashtag #mellowbacon.
