Boyd Coffee Company, the oldest family-owned coffee company in the Pacific Northwest is partnering with the Canadian coffee roaster and grinder, Club Coffee, who has produced the world’s first 100 percent compostable, fully certified single-serve beverage pod. The new compostable coffee pods will be on display at Booth #5739 at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA March 10-12, 2016

“With our long-standing commitment to organic and Rainforest Alliance Certified™ coffees, Boyd’s Coffee has found an alternative solution to the billions of plastic cups filling landfills in our country,” said Jeffrey Newman, CEO of Boyd Coffee Company. “Our partner, Club Coffee has manufactured a single-serve compostable pod that can be converted to useful compost. As a fourth-generation Oregon company, we care deeply about our impact on the environment and strive to find innovative ways to protect our planet.”

The new single-serve pod is made from more than 90 percent renewable resources, and the pod’s ring is made from coffee chaff — the skin of the coffee bean that comes off during the roasting process. Every single part of the pod is designed to be digestible by, and accessible for, bacteria, which supports the composting process. The pod meets U.S. and international standards and certifications required by municipal compost manufacturers. The compostable pod is compatible with most Keurig brewing systems, including the new Keurig 2.0 brewers.

Boyd Coffee’s new 100% Compostable Coffee Pods are available for grocers in a 12-count box with an SRP of $9.99 in the following flavors and roasts:

  • Good Morning– medium roast
  • French No. 6– dark roast
  • Hi-Revwith a high caffeine level and medium to dark roast
  • Lost Lake Decaf Organicis certified organic, Rainforest Alliance Certified™ and medium-to-dark roast
  • Red Wagon Organic Coffeeis certified organic, Rainforest Alliance Certified™ and dark roast
