Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown – Contenders AnnouncedJuly 31, 2015: This year, edible Santa Fe proudly takes the reigns of the Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown to spotlight New Mexico’s most notorious burgers and world-class chefs. The 2014 event SOLD OUT! This year promises more contenders, more beverages, food vendors, live music and more fun. Restaurants will compete for the chance to reign as the City Different’s Green Chile Cheeseburger Champ.

The culinary expertise that edible brings to the contest ensures the event’s ongoing success and the celebration of green chile for years to come!”

  • Blue Corn Brewery
  • Caffe Greco
  • Cowgirl BBQ
  • Living Room at Inn and Spa Loretto
  • Red Sage at Buffalo Thunder
  • Second Street Brewery
  • Terra at Four Seasons Rancho Encantado
  • The Mine Shaft Tavern

SOCIAL MEDIA CRAWL will take place August 1 – 3 to launch the online voting period, which runs from August 1 – 15. Diners will be able to enjoy the competition burgers (purchase required) at participating restaurants and cast a vote for their favorites at

The top eight contenders will move on to the Smackdown on September 10 to battle it out at the Santa Fe Railyard in front of a panel of local and national celebrity judges. The esteemed judges are:

  • Tracey Ryder, co-founder of Edible Communities, Inc., the nation’s largest publishing company dedicated to the local foods movement, in 2002
  • Cheryl Jamison, James Beard Award winner, well-known cookbook author and one of the country’s foremost authorities on barbecue, grilling and smoke cooking
  • Kelly Urig, a.k.a. ChileChica, literally wrote the book on chile. Author of New Mexico Chiles; History, Legend & Lore and filmmaker of The Chile Film
  • Dave DeWitt, a food historian and one of the foremost authorities in the world on chile peppers, spices, and spicy foods
  • Surprise guest of national celebrity fame

In addition to an Overall Winner as chosen by the judges’ panel, a blind tasting by the first 100 attendees will determine the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD. The cook-off will take place at the Santa Fe Farmers Market Pavilion in the Railyards on September 10 starting at 4:00pm.

Edible encourages green chile aficionados to get involved by taking part in the ONLINE VOTING from August 1 – 15 and the People’s Choice Award voting during the Smackdown.
