HOFBRAUHAUS LAS VEGAS TO HOST ANNUAL STEIN HOLDING COMPETITION MAY 3 – JULY 27

It’s not BYOB, it’s HYOB – Hold Your Own Beer – at Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas! Beginning Friday, May 3 through Saturday, July 27, every Friday and Saturday evening, Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas will host its annual Masskrugstemmen (stein holding) competition. The regional winner with the longest time holding their beer will win a trip to New York City this September to compete in the finals for the title of “U.S. Champion in Masskrugstemmen.”

Masskrugstemmen is not a drinking game – it is a game of strength and endurance. The competition is about who can hold “The Masskrug” – a 1 liter (34 oz.) mug – filled with beer at shoulder level with their arm extended for as long as they can. No beer can be spilled, no elbows can be bent, and your arm must stay parallel to the ground. The winner is the person who can keep their stein aloft the longest. The record for the longest time at Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas was 2022 regional winner David Sturzen, who held strong for 11 minutes and 16 seconds, and then went on to win the national title.

In addition to bragging rights, the regional winner will win a trip to New York City to represent Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas in the National Masskrugstemmen Championship on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at the SummerStage in Central Park. The trip includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, some spending money, and the opportunity to participate on a float in the world-famous Steuben Parade on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The winner of the finals will be named “U.S. Champion in Masskrugstemmen” and will receive a trip for two to Munich, Germany, home of the original Hofbräuhaus. The prize includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, a guided tour at the Hofbräu Brewery and dinner at the Hofbräuhaus in Munich.
