New York’s Beloved Ice Cream Shop Unveils New Farm-to-Freezer Flavor

In August, Urby and the historic Staten Island ice cream parlor Egger’s Ice Cream will unveil their first collaboration: Green Dream, a one-of-a-kind homemade ice cream flavor available only at Eggers’ pop up location at Staten Island Urby.

Green Dream is made from ingredients grown at Staten Island Urby’s unique, on-site 5,000 square foot urban farm by Rabbit’s Garden, Urby’s current farmer-in-residence.

Evolving throughout the season as new crops come to harvest, the first iteration of Green Dream will be infused with basil and micro greens for a bold, fresh flavor that makes the perfect treat on a hot summer’s day.

Founded in 1932, Egger’s Ice Cream is a Staten Island staple, with a flagship location on Forest Avenue, and a second location in Historic Richmond Town. Egger’s Ice Cream at Staten Island Urby offers the charming, throwback atmosphere of a classic 1930s ice cream parlor with homemade ice cream, old-fashioned candy, and classic soda fountain beverages.

Located on the North Shore waterfront, Staten Island Urby is one of the largest new construction developments in Staten Island with 571 apartments and 35,000 square feet of commercial space.
Egger’s is the latest culinary offering to join Urby’s burgeoning North Shore food scene. Other highlights
include Barca, Chef Dave Pasternack and Vic Rallo’s new Mediterranean-style seafood concept;
Surf, the second restaurant from TV host & restaurateur Vic Rallo, featuring live wood-fire
cooking; and Seppe Pizza Bar, run by brothers Joe Iovino and Damian De Rosaire, who have familial
roots from Naples, Italy. Later this year, Vice Kitchen & Cocktails will open, offering a fun, tapas-style
dining experience with a robust cocktail menu.

Urby’s mission is to transform apartment living as we know it. Created for the needs of today’s urban
citizens, Urby puts the focus on imaginative design, thoughtfully-conceived features and offerings, and
careful consideration of both personal and public spaces that brings fresh thinking and life to the
resident experience.

Rabbit’s Garden, the latest farmer-in-residence in Urby’s urban farmer incubator, grows a variety of
vegetables, herbs, microgreens, and flowers for Urby residents and restaurants, CSA members, and wholesale clients. In addition to growing produce, Rabbit’s Garden strives to be an integrated community hub for Urby residents and the larger Staten Island community by providing a weekly farmer’s market, programming, and educational workshops on cooking, gardening, art,
science, sustainability, and more.
