SEVENTH ANNUAL PIZZA WARS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR STUDENTS IN NEED IN DISTRICT 219

Area Pizzerias Battle to Reign “Supreme” on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Niles North High School

Pizza Wars 7 in Skokie, ILOne out of three students in District 219 require financial assistance and over 50 area students are homeless. The Education Foundation Supporting the Students of Niles Township http://www.219foundation.org/ aims to assist those students and their families with the seventh annual food-focused fundraiser Pizza Wars 7. Taking place on Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Niles North High School main gymnasium at 9800 Lawler Avenue in Skokie, Pizza Wars has become The Education Foundation’s signature annual fundraiser. The funds raised will assist students in need who attend Niles Township High School and feeder schools in the villages of Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles and Skokie.

Over 700 people attended the sixth annual Pizza Wars in 2016 and sampled pizza from ten Chicagoland pizzerias, all while raising over $16,500 for The Education Foundation. Each year around ten area pizza restaurants participate in Pizza Wars, bringing their signature pizza to the competition. The Pizza War 6 winner was Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria https://www.loumalnatis.com/. Will they reign “Supreme” again? This year’s contenders will include: Jet’s Pizza, Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, OrganicLife, Pie 5, Piero’s Pizza, Village Inn Pizzeria, and Wa-Pa-Getti’s, with more to be announced, plus Nothing Bundt Cakes will provide dessert. The pizza tasting will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 7:15 p.m., or whenever pizza is gone. The winner will be announced at 7:30 p.m.

Advance tickets for Pizza Wars 7 are now on sale for only $12 per person and $15 per person at the door. The evening will also feature live entertainment from the Niles North High School and Niles West High School student bands. Sponsorship opportunities are currently available starting at $25 up to $500. Tickets and sponsorships may be obtained on The Education Foundation website at http://www.219foundation.org/.

Although Pizza Wars is a family-friendly, fun event the purpose behind Pizza Wars should not be taken lightly. The Education Foundation raises funds for students who are in critical need. When the foundation was formed in 2007, the goal was to provide the basic tools of education however, the situation has become more severe in recent years. There is an increasing need for the foundation to provide money for food as well as financial assistance to student’s families who have fallen on difficult times. Over 34% of the students within Niles Township are in need of everyday supplies and unfortunately, the need continues to grow. The Education Foundation has awarded over $190,000 in grants and scholarships. It does indeed take a village to raise a child.
