Smith & Wollensky London Now Open
Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group Debuts First Location Across the Pond
BOSTON, Mass. (June 24, 2015)— Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group (SWRG), a collection of boutique steakhouses, is proud to announce the first opening internationally in London. Smith & Wollensky opened the classic steakhouse just off The Strand in the historic Adelphi Building. Londoners and travelers can expect the restaurant’s same warm American hospitality that has made it much loved in the US – with its signature offerings of USDA Prime dry-aged steaks, premium seafood, award-winning wines and classic cocktails.
At the heart of every Smith & Wollensky is the dry-aging process, and London is no different with both a dry-aging room and butchery on-site for true farm-to-fork experience. Selected from the top 2% of beef in the US and hand-selected for rich, even marbling, the USDA Prime beef is dry-aged for 28 days to intensify flavor and tenderness for the very best steaks in London.
The menu itself is a cut above the rest: USDA Prime steaks range from 21 oz. bone-in sirloin to 24 oz. Cajun marinated rib eye. British cuts include an 8 and 12 oz. premium Scottish filet mignon served au poivre, gorgonzola-crusted or Oscar-style. Butcher’s specials vary from T-bone to bone-in filet, as well as new season lamb chops, roasted rose veal chop and the signature Wollensky’s Butcher Burger. Seafood is a star: herb-crusted tuna loin and pan-roasted organic salmon sit alongside ocean-fresh shellfish such as Cumbrae oysters, jumbo shrimp, whole Dorset crab and whole poached lobster.
“Taking the Smith & Wollensky brand abroad was an exciting, both personally and professionally,” stated Smith & Wollensky President and CEO, Michael Feighery. “Beginning our international expansion in London made perfect sense. Londoners have enjoyed our iconic US locations, from New York to Miami and Las Vegas. Together we have cultivated an incredible collaboration between our tenured team here in the US and our engaged UK counterparts, eager to be a part of something so exciting. As partners across the pond, we are all looking forward to growing this family of steakhouses admired for their hospitality worldwide.”
Designed by renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki, the 300-seat restaurant mirrors the classic green and white Smith & Wollensky brand, set against a backdrop of dark mahogany woods, green leathers and vibrant pops of red. Spread across two floors, guests can choose between two destination bars, adorned with Art Deco tiling and glossy marble surfaces. Dining guests can take a seat in either of the two main dining areas. Enjoy lunch with plenty of natural light through oversized windows upstairs, or descend into the beautiful basement of sultrily-lit suppers. There are three private dining rooms for stylish receptions and seated parties of up to 50, including the luxurious Teddy Roosevelt Room, complete with its own bar and dedicated bartender.
From the glamorous reception to the 1920s-inspired artwork, Smith & Wollensky London evokes all the elegance and timeless appeal of the restaurant’s rich heritage while capturing the essence of London’s bustling dining scene.
