The Melting Pot Partners with Gluten Intolerance Group for Fifth Year in a Row to Raise Awareness of Gluten-Related Disorders During Celiac Awareness Month

The Melting Pot raising awareness of gluten-related disorders during Celiac Awareness MonthIn honor of Celiac Awareness Month, The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc, the world’s premier fondue restaurant franchise and a gluten-free friendly restaurant, is partnering with the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) for the fifth year in a row this May to help raise awareness of gluten-related disorders through the annual Chef to Plate Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Campaign.

“The Melting Pot first teamed up with the Gluten Intolerance Group in 2010 to launch a gluten-free menu of fondue dishes that are safe for guests with gluten-related disorders to enjoy,” said Mike Lester, president of The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. “With these types of disorders affecting so many people, we’re glad to have the opportunity to continue to work with GIG each May to offer educational materials in our restaurants during Celiac Awareness Month.”

Celiac disease, an autoimmune disease that damages the intestine when gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye or barley, is consumed, affects one in 133 Americans (about 3.1 million people) and one in 250 worldwide.

Working with GIG, The Melting Pot introduced its gluten-free menu in 2010. The menu features gluten-free cheese fondues, salads, entrées and chocolate fondues, as well as gluten-free fondue dippers. Each year, The Melting Pot serves more than 10,000 pounds of gluten-free cheese fondue.

Chef to Plate is an international gluten-free awareness campaign of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America (GIG), a nonprofit group dedicated to raising awareness of celiac disease and other forms of gluten intolerance.
