Chatham Bars Inn Turns 100

June 9 Birthday Launches a Year of Centennial-Themed Festivities

Chatham Bars Inn Turns 100Cape Cod’s beloved Chatham Bars Inn turns 100 years old on June 9, 2014. To mark this historic milestone, the 217-room resort, which began as a luxury hunting lodge and has hosted generations of families and illustrious guests, is planning a celebration that will span the year. There will be centennial rates and packages, menus that bring back nostalgic favorites, and social media promotions. A series of special events, from an ice cream social to a Roaring 20s Costume Ball, will launch on June 9 and continue through year’s end. The resort will announce centennial-related news and event updates via social media using #CBI100 as plans unfold, and encourages its fans and patrons to use the hashtag as well.

“Chatham Bars Inn is that rare place that invites guests to take a nostalgic step into a simpler era while providing every modern comfort they expect in the 21st century,” said General Manager Paul Zuest. “Our owners – and there have been only three since 1914 – have shepherded the resort with great care through the years and have brought us to this historic moment. One hundred years after Chatham Bars Inn first opened, we can reflect proudly on an extraordinary past and look forward to an uncommon future.”

Among the highlights of the centennial celebration:

  • Birthday ice cream social (June 9): Chatham Bars Inn will celebrate its official birthday with an old-fashioned ice cream social, just like the one that marked its opening in 1914. Guests will be invited to share the resort’s birthday cake, which will feature vintage images of Chatham Bars Inn.
  • Lawn Games, Speakeasy and Roaring 20s Costume Ball (June 14): Cape Cod residents and guests in town for the Second Annual Chatham Antique Car Invitational can step back in time with a stop at Chatham Bars Inn for the following events:

Family lawn games and a croquet tournament will take place on the South Lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guests who utter the secret password can slip Prohibition-style into Hardy’s Speakeasy (otherwise known as the Sacred Cod tavern) for an a la carte menu, specialty drinks and live jazz. The speakeasy will be open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., with music beginning at 10:30 p.m.

The Inn will be transformed to herald a bygone era, and guests are encouraged to turn out in their finest flapper wear for a Roaring 20s Costume Ball (with prizes awarded for best attire). Tickets for the ball, which will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., are $95 and include a cocktail reception, a three-course dinner (with cash bar), a Centennial keepsake, and dancing to a 20-piece band playing Big Band and jazz favorites.

Chatham Bars Inn Turns 100Anniversary Package: Valid June 13-15 only, this package includes two nights’ accommodations, entrée to the Roaring 20s Costume Ball and breakfast for two daily. It is priced at $998.

Social Media Promotions: A pair of centennial–themed promotions will award prizes to social media-savvy guests, as follows:

  • #CBIdaydream: Fan will be invited to use hashtag #CBIdaydream whenever a moment strikes that makes them wish they were at Chatham Bars Inn. For example: “Snow again? Ready for summer on the beach @ChathamBarsInn #CBIdaydream.” As an incentive to post, the resort will award mini surprises to its favorite daydreamers for redemption on their next visit.
  • #TBTCBI100: The resort will challenge past guests to choose a picture from a past Chatham Bars Inn trip for their Throwback Thursday posts on social media, using hashtag #TBTCBI100. The guest who posts the best picture of all submitted throughout the year will win a complimentary return trip in 2015.
