WASHINGTON, DC, OCTOBER 3, 2017 – World Central Kitchen, a non-profit founded by Chef José Andrés and focused on providing chef-driven solutions to hunger and poverty around the world, announces its fourth annual World Food Day, an event taking place on Friday, October 13, 2017, where over 150 restaurants nationwide will donate 10% of their proceeds to World Central Kitchen’s projects in Puerto Rico and Haiti.
This year, dining out at a participating restaurant on Friday, October 13 will mean supporting World Central Kitchen’s current efforts to support relief in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. The team is already on the ground in Puerto Rico, being led by José Andrés and activating a growing network of chefs, to provide food and logistical assistance to the country’s residents. Proceeds from World Food Day will additionally go toward World Central Kitchen’s new culinary school in Port au Prince, Haiti, a place where the team has an established presence helping to train young chefs and lay the groundwork for continued culinary education.
Restaurants across the country will participate in World Food Day, with a roster of acclaimed chefs and restaurateurs including Mario Batali, Emeril Lagasse, Alice Waters, Richard Sandoval, Rick Bayless, Stephanie Izard, Tim Love, Suzanne Goin, Ludo Lefebvre, Daniel Boulud, Roy Choi, Susan Feniger, Ming Tsai, Mary Sue Milliken, Aarón Sánchez, and more. World Food Day is proudly sponsored by tableware and serve ware supply company Front of the House.
