Mozzarella Bar Originator and Global Group Opens Third Los Angeles Restaurant
Internationally renowned Obicà Group opens its third Los Angeles location at the historic Sunset Plaza on Friday, August 26, 2016. Obicà Sunset Plaza offers an incredible dining room with exceptional views of the city, a grandiose bar and two outdoor seating areas – perfect places to enjoy aperitivo. Joining locations in Santa Monica and Century City, Obicà makes quintessential Italian food in its simplest, brightest form, serving contemporary and classic, regional Italian cooking. Spearheaded by Obicà Group’s Corporate Executive Chef Erind Halilaj, Obicà’s extensive menu delivers a light approach to Italian dishes. Serving high quality, local, organic ingredients, Obicà also focuses heavily on Italian origin products, including its signature and famed Mozzarella offerings. New to Obicà Sunset Plaza is a guided Mozzarella experience, providing guests with suggested pairings such as Ricotta with Pine Nuts and Cranberries and Stracciatella di Burratawith Anchovies. In addition to traditional Mozzarella di Bufala Classica DOP with its delicate taste; Mozzarella di Bufala Affumicata DOP, naturally smoked;Burrata, sweet and creamy and Burrata al Tartufo with black truffle.
Complementing the mozzarella offerings, Obicà Sunset Plaza has a large selection of small plates, antipasti, salads, vegetables, steaks, pizza and pasta, providing three new Caprese dishes including Caprese Classica with Handmade Mozzarella di Bufala Braid, Sliced Heirloom Organic Tomatoes and Basil;Caprese di Mare with Sardinian Mullet Roe and Anchovies and Caprese dell’Orto with Grilled Eggplant and Mint, in addition to a tasting menu for first time customers. Notable Obicà signature items consist of bestseller Taglierini Neri with Homemade Squid Ink Taglierini, Sardinian Mullet Roe, Crab Ragu, and Santa Barbara Sea Urchin and standout Pappardelle al Ragu Di Anatra a Arancia with Homemade Rosemary Pasta, Tuscan Style Duck Ragu, and Orange Zest. As well as new menu items including Risotto al Tartufo Nero with Italian Sausage and Black Truffle; Cavolfiore al Forno with Oven-Cooked Cauliflower, Raisins, Olives, Pine Nuts, Sunflower Seeds and Lemongrass; Ravioli d’Astice with Maine Lobster Homemade Ravioli, Lemon Zest, Fresh Thyme and Lobster Bisque and Pizza Uovo with Egg, Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano, Asparagus, and Mozzarella di Bufala. Obicà also offers a wide variety of hearty vegetarian options including Nastrini al Pesto with Homemade Whole Wheat Linguine with Genovese Basil Pesto, Potatoes, and String Beans; Pizza Cavolo e Zucca with Smoked Mozzarella, Kale and Squash and Ravioli Freschi with Ricotta di Bufala and Kale Homemade Ravioli in Sage Butter Sauce and Parmigiano Reggiano, as well as vegan options such as Cavolfiore al Forno with Oven-Cooked Cauliflower, Raisins, Olives, Pine Nuts, Sunflower Seeds and Lemongrass. Gluten free pastas are available upon request.
Beverage offerings are extensive as Obicà has more than one hundred wines, and eighty grape varieties. A garden-to-glass cocktail program, conceptualized by Obicà Group’s Beverage Manager Fabrizio Argiolas, uses house-made syrups, purees and infused spirits, serving unique cocktails such as Viola with Piedra Azul Blanco Tequila, Green Apple and Red Beet Puree, and Citrus Mix; Fumo Negli Occhi with Tobacco-infused Bourbon, Cynar Bitter, Mescal, and Sweet Vermouth and Solo Qui with Green Tea Infused Russian Standard Vodka, Pineapple Juice, Citrus Mix, and Sage Syrup. Obicà also offers seasonal drink specials, a significant variety of non-alcoholic beverages and beer.
Comfortably accommodating 120 diners, Obicà Sunset Plaza features four main dining areas in the 3,300 square foot space. Embracing the restaurant’s ethos of tradition meets innovation, Obicà’s dining room features high ceilings, natural oak floors, and exposed beams and skylights. Within the dining room is a striking 15 seat, Carrara Marble countertop bar lined with wood and leather bar stools. The back dining and lounge area includes banquettes and a central oval table, with availability for private events and cocktail receptions, in addition to dinner service. A front patio situated on Sunset Boulevard has an array of white chairs with teak details, providing a perfect suntrap for those wanting to dine outdoors and an intimate back terrace includes a Carrara Marble countertop overlooking the lights of Los Angeles.
