Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery Names James Revie Assistant WinemakerSt. Helena, CA – June 30, 2015 – Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery is happy to announce the appointment of James Revie to the position of assistant winemaker. Revie will work alongside Spottswoode’s vineyard manager and winemaker, Aron Weinkauf, to oversee the farming of the historic 133-year-old Spottswoode Estate Vineyard, and the making of the winery’s four wines: Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Field Book Syrah, Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon, and the iconic Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.

Revie was born and raised in Australia, and began working in vineyards in the country’s acclaimed Margaret River winegrowing region as a teenager. After earning a degree in viticulture and enology from Curtin University, Revie joined the team at Margaret River’s family-owned Voyager Estate Winery. During his six years at Voyager Estate, Revie worked extensively with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc in his position as laboratory manager and enologist. In 2012, Voyager Estate sponsored him to work a Northern Hemisphere harvest at Napa Valley’s Spottswoode and Araujo wineries. In late 2014, eager to return to Napa Valley, Revie rejoined the Spottswoode winemaking team. Revie assumes the role of assistant winemaker from Landon Donley, who has been named the winemaker of Napa Valley’s acclaimed Titus Vineyards, under Director of Winemaking Phillip Titus.

“I’m proud of both Landon and James,” says Winemaker Aron Weinkauf. “They are both extremely talented winemakers who have earned their new positions. While we will miss Landon, we are very excited that James will be bringing his international experience to Spottswoode. Not only is James a passionate and thoughtful winemaker, with a gifted palate, his time at Spottswoode has given him an intimate understanding of our approach, and the values that shape our wines.”

About Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery

After a decade of growing winegrapes at her historic Napa Valley vineyard, Mary Novak founded Spottswoode, and made her first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982. In the years since, Spottswoode has become one of Napa Valley’s defining wineries. Stewarded by Mary and her daughters, Beth and Lindy, Spottswoode has stayed true to an elegant, balanced and age-worthy style that captures both the character of the vintage and the complexity of the Spottswoode Estate Vineyard. Originally planted in 1882, the Spottswoode Estate Vineyard has been farmed organically since 1985, and has earned acclaim as one of the finest winegrowing sites for Cabernet Sauvignon in the world.
