The Real McCoy Rum Enters Spring Like a Lion

Portfolio Continues Winning Streak at Top Competitions

The Real McCoy Rum Enters Spring Like a LionReal McCoy Spirits Corp., makers of The Real McCoy Rum, added ten more awards to its growing list of accolades this month. The spirit brand’s success in prestigious competitions across the country and worldwide continued, with a win for each of its three expressions at both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and last week’s Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) Spirits Tasting Competition in Las Vegas.

Held just last month, the 2014 San Francisco event saw fierce competition with over 1,400 brands submitted for entry—the largest amount to date. The Real McCoy Rum stood out among the crowd, taking home three medals including a Double Gold for its 5-year-aged mark. The 3-year and 12-year were also recognized, winning a Gold and Silver award, respectively.

“San Francisco is one of the industry’s most respected competitions,” remarked Bailey Pryor, President and CEO of Real McCoy Spirits Corp. “In this crowded marketplace, it’s difficult for emerging brands to differentiate themselves from the pack. Receiving this level of critical acclaim from respected 3rd party judges helps validate the fact that our product really does live up to its name.”

On the heels of this renowned event, was the WSWA Spirits Tasting Competition, where again, The Real McCoy trifecta shined. The brand’s 12-year aged and 5-year aged rum each took Double Gold and “Best of Show” (for “Extra Aged” and “Dark/Gold Rum” categories respectively). The 3-year aged rum also took a Gold Medal.

In addition, the products have received recent awards at the 2014 Ultimate Spirits Competition: the 3-year aged rum a score of 92, and the 12-year aged a 90-point score. At the American Distillers Institute’s (ADI) 8th Annual Judging of Craft American Spirits, the brand’s 12-year aged expression earned the title of “Best of Class.” In the last month alone, the company has received 10 major awards for its rums, bringing the total medal count to 30 awards in the 15 months since the product’s launch.

“We value the relationships we have built with our accounts and we want to be sure they have all the tools they need to be successful with our brand,” said Pryor. “Medals and awards from competitions such as these help us support our retailers by building confidence in the consumer. When it comes down to it, we feel that’s the most important thing about winning.”
