WHAT:

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada will host a special media preview of this year’s Dessert Before Dinner fundraising event. Girl Scouts, participating chefs and honorees will be in attendance for a special presentation. Each year at Dessert Before Dinner, one Girl Scout cookie is selected, around which chefs create their own sweet concoctions.  Gala guests have the chance to enjoy sampling these cookie-inspired desserts before dinner is even served. At this year’s media preview, the 2015 Girl Scout cookie will be announced.

In addition to the media preview for Dessert Before Dinner, the day also marks the organization’s volunteer kickoff. Currently with more than 4,700 Girl Scouts and 2,000 volunteers, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada’s goal is to grow participation to 20,000 girls and 9,000 adults by 2025. The Girl Scouts Open House for new volunteers will take place Aug. 18, 19 and 20 at the Girl Scouts Leadership Center on Harris Ave. For more information regarding volunteering, please call (702) 385-3677 or visit www.GirlScoutsNV.org.

WHO:

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls of all ages and serves more than 8,000 youth and adult members throughout Southern Nevada.  The organization seeks to help girls and young women build character and develop the life skills for success in the real world and is a part of the Girl Scouts of the USA, the nationwide organization that has helped girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together since 1912.

WHY:

Now established as one of the city’s most exciting fundraising events, Dessert Before Dinner brings area chefs together to create the ultimate confection incorporating one chosen signature Girl Scout cookie. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Caesars Palace. In addition to the chefs’ competition, an array of the city’s most high-profile women will be honored for their contributions to the Girl Scouts, as well as the community. They will also receive select badges based on their talent and achievements.

Gala’s proceeds will continue to lay the foundation for all girls in Southern Nevada to make their dreams come true. In addition to funding scholarships, proceeds enable the organization to reach girls in all demographics and areas of the community as well as expanding upon current programming such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), social values and financial literacy. Most importantly, support for Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada helps encourage girls to embrace imaginative and innovative approaches to everything they do—with the goal of creating a better world for all.
