Bo-beau Kitchen and Roof Tap in Long Beach

Cohn Restaurant Group Expands North to the Historic Downtown Long Beach District with an Expansive Two-Story Restaurant & Rooftop Beer Garden on Pine Avenue

Bo-beau Kitchen and Roof Tap in Long BeachAfter months of anticipation, David and Lesley Cohn of Southern California’s Cohn Restaurant Group (The Prado at Balboa Park, C-Level & Island Prime, Corvette Diner, to name a few) are pleased to announce the official opening of BO-beau kitchen + roof tap, an expansive two-story restaurant and rooftop beer garden located in heart of Long Beach, California. Situated at 144 Pine Ave in downtown’s historic district, BO-beau is the first venture in Los Angeles County for the husband and wife restaurateurs, who own and operate more than 21 of San Diego’s most celebrated venues and have led an award winning team for the past 33 years.

Boasting nearly 14,000 square feet of space with a “bohemian industrial chic” aesthetic, BO-beau kitchen + roof tap is a re-defined extension of the Cohns’ original BO-beau project, which launched to critical acclaim in San Diego’s Ocean Beach neighborhood in 2010 and has been one of San Diego’s most sought after tables ever since.

Bo-beau Kitchen and Roof Tap in Long Beach“BO-beau kitchen + roof tap has been a true labor of love for all of us, we are definitely ready to bring our award winning food and service to downtown Long Beach,” says Operations Manager James Stephenson. “This expansion into the Long Beach market has been a long time coming – years in the making – and the community could not be more warm and welcoming.”

MENU: The menu features a modern twist on Cal-French classics, signature dishes from the original BO-beau project, as well as composed plates and shared-style offerings. Refined, yet approachable, dishes include the Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Pancetta, Parmesan and Balsamic, a Boeuf Bourguignon with Mushrooms, Pearl Onions and Fingerling Potatoes, as well as Brown Butter Seared Scallops with Pear-Marscarpone Ravioli. A custom-built wood stone oven also delivers a selection of flatbreads adorned with seasonal ingredients in the downstairs area. Upstairs, roof tap features a stand-alone kitchen and a modified menu, showcasing more casual offerings to complement the diverse beer portfolio. Roof tap menu items include Ballast Point Pale Ale Fried Chicken, Salted Caramel Kettle Corn, and Freshly Baked Bavarian Jumbo Pretzels.

Bo-beau Kitchen and Roof Tap in Long BeachEXECUTIVE CHEF: One of the region’s up-and-coming female chefs, Katherine Humphus, leads BO-beau kitchen + roof tap as the Executive Chef. A native San Diegan, Humphus mastered her culinary talents in a variety of kitchens, spending time studying under well-known chefs such as Thomas Keller of Napa’s famed The French Laundry and Wylie Dufresne of New York City’s molecular gastronomy-driven WD-50. Incorporating the flavors and fare of numerous countries known for their deep culinary roots, she honed her skills at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France with Le Grand Diplome in Cuisine & Pastry. Upon her return to Southern California and the subsequent opening of the premier BO-beau in 2010, the Ocean Beach venue was met with immediate fanfare, and Humphus was recognized for her bold flavors and modern, fresh take on classic French dishes. Katherine was also instrumental in the Cohns’ opening of the successful 100 Wines Kitchen + Bar in San Diego in 2012, and has taken home such accolades as “Best Local Chef” from Ranch & Coast, “Top Female Chef” by Riviera Magazine and “Chef of the Year” finalist for U-T San Diego.

DESIGN: The bohemian-meets-industrial chic venue is designed in partnership withSpacecraft, the high-profile hospitality design and construction firm based in Los Angeles. Taking inspiration from the rustic Provencal design of the San Diego flagship location, BO-beau kitchen + roof tap embodies a slightly more industrial feel. The exterior of the 1930’s art deco era building is restored to its original glory while the inside space mimics a contemporary warehouse–with exposed rafters housing slow-moving oversized fans, deconstructed brick arches and custom metal work throughout. The downstairs space, BO-beau kitchen, features a stylish high-design dining room, as well as an expansive 50-person bar and lounge. The second-story, roof tap–a play-on-words-title inspired by the 2,800 square foot open-air roof deck–is a convivial beer garden with peekaboo views to the street below.
