DA Rules on CBD as a Food Additive

A few weeks ago, Ben & Jerry’s broke the internet with this photo, announcing that they would launch a CBD-infused ice cream if and when the FDA approves the cannabinoid as a food additive.

But the news from the FDA this week puts a wrench in their plans. Last Friday, the FDA held its first hearing on CBD. They ruled that CBD could not be marketed as a dietary supplement or added to food or beverages. In slightly more hopeful news, the administration did acknowledge the “strong public interest in CBD” and committed to creating pathway for regulatory approval.

That means CBD-infused Half Baked from Ben & Jerry’s will have to wait…but hopefully not forever.
