New Consulting Winemaker at The Stomping Ground

THE STOMPING GROUND ANNOUNCES FIRST CONSULTING WINEMAKER

Geoff Mace Joins Central Coast Custom Crush Facility

Gilroy, CA – The Stomping Ground, a custom crush facility on the Central Coast, has announced Geoff Mace as TSG’s Winemaker and Cellar Operations Manager. Most recently, Geoff worked as a winemaker for Constellation Brands.  He has also held winemaking and operations roles with Treasury Wine Estates, O’Neill Vintners and Distillers, and The Wine Group.  With eight years of winemaking experience, Geoff will prove an invaluable asset to the The Stomping Ground.

“Geoff’s passion for the craft of winemaking and his track record producing award-winning brands ensures our custom crush clients’ wines are in good hands,” says Jason Goelz, Managing Partner of The Stomping Ground.

In Geoff’s new role, he will work with the team on completion of the facility’s new crushpad and production cellar. He will work hand-in-hand with clients on their smooth transition into the new winery.

Geoff comments,“I’m excited to partner with a group of winemakers who are passionate about what they do.  I’m looking forward to working with fruit from some of the Central Coast’s top vineyards,” comments Geoff.  Before his years as a winemaker, Geoff served in the Marine Corps for four years after receiving an undergraduate degree in Finance from San Jose State University. He then attended Fresno State University, where he received his Viticulture and Enology degree and MBA.

About The Stomping Ground:
Local winemakers Jason and Janu Goelz (Jason-Stephens Winery) in partnership with Tim Slater (Sarah’s Vineyard) purchased an industrial vacant lot in Gilroy in 2016, with the goal of transforming the seven acre property into the area’s ultimate food and wine destination. Phase 1 of TSG has been completed; custom crush and cellaring facilities for regional artisan wine brands have been installed. Phase 2 is in progress and includes hospitality renovations for wine tasting rooms, restaurants, gourmet vendors, and entertainment. Jason-Stephens Winery is the first winery to open on-site at The Stomping Ground, with other local vintners to follow. The Goelz / Slater team are working closely with city and county officials and businesses to ensure the project is not only a great, regional visitors’ attraction but also a responsible, conscientious community partner.
